Sarah Palin Biography: Career and Influence

After this, she competed for Miss Alaska and was third runner up. This enabled her to go further in life, as she won a college scholarship in this competition. Sarah's college education would consist of stints at various colleges. Her first was at Hawaii Pacific University in 1982. From 1983-1987 she attended North Idaho College, The University of Idaho, Matanuska-Susitna College, then back to the University of Idaho. In 1987, she earned a bachelor's degree in communications and journalism. After college she worked as a sportscaster for local Anchorage, Alaska TV stations. 1988 was a big year for Sarah Palin. She and her high school sweetheart, Todd Palin, eloped, then worked together at Todd's fishing business.

Sarah Palin really took charge of the mayor's office. She cut taxes, improved the local infrastructure, and reduced wasteful spending. Sarah Palin fired some city employees who did not like her methods and actions. These included a police chief. He later sued, but his case was tossed out. Sarah has been credited with taking Wasilla from a small town to a city. Having finished her terms as mayor, Sarah Palin set her sites on the bigger picture. She ran for lieutenant governor, but lost in the primary. In 2003, the governor of Alaska appointed Sarah Palin to the Alaska Oil and Gas Conservation Commission. She made waves by exposing state corruption in the oil and gas industries. Sarah had a few successes to eliminate this. This led her to be at odds with the then Republican Governor, Frank Murkowski. In the gubernatorial primary 2006, Sarah Palin defeated Murkowski. That November, the state of Alaska elected it's first woman governor, Sarah Palin. At the age of 42, she was at the top of Alaskan politics. During her term as governor, Sarah Palin concentrated on education, infrastructure, and corruption. She battled even within her own party to raise the ethics bar, most notably with Senator Ted Stevens. Stevens was eventually charged in 2008.

John McCain, the Republican nominee for president, named Sarah Palin as his running mate while campaigning in Dayton, Ohio, August 29, 2008. And the rest is history. The campaign started strong, but McCain bumbled, stumbled, and never really let Sarah Palin get off the ground. Even though Joe Biden was and is a walking disaster, Sarah Palin had to take the brunt of many offensive and untrue remarks. The mainstream media was not going to let this little 'ol gal from Alaska amount to anything of they could help it. When the duo lost the election in November, many thought Sarah Palin would now be a non-issue. But they were wrong. The mainstream newsmedia once again thought they had done her in. But, no. Sarah Palin penned her best selling book, Going Rogue: An American Life. Her book tour led her to many supporting crowds. The news media still did not get it. New outlets, comedians, celebrities, and even politicians let her have it from all sides. Vile, filthy, distasteful, and twisted comments were thrown her way. But Sarah Palin stood tall and proud. In the summer of 2009, Sarah Palin realized that she could help her country more by campaigning and champion causes that she felt strong about. Being governor of Alaska would hinder that. Rather than split her time and short change the people of Alaska, she decided to resign as governor. Many in the main stream news media put their own illogical spin on this move. Calling Sarah Palin a quitter and other unkind names. No matter. Sarah Palin did what she does best. She went rogue and showed the media she was smarter than what the thought.

With the push of the Obama administration getting involved and ramming through health care, the voters were beginning to turn to anger. They wanted their country back. Back from what the saw as a power grab to run the lives of Americans. From stimulus, bank bailouts, auto company bailouts, to a sinking jobs market. Real, ordinary Americans were beginning to be heard. Sarah Palin can take no small credit for this incredible movement.

The Republicans took Virgina and New Jersey. Then a shocker. Old Ted Kennedy's seat was snatched up as well by Scott Brown.The more they try and silence Sarah Palin and ordinary citizens of the Tea Party, the more power they will show. Let's hope people like Sarah Palin do keep the pressure on for Americans who want what is right. What is the future? With a massive health care bill railroaded through, the anger is still their. Maybe even more. Sarah Palin will keep the pressure on to unseat all those politicians, Republicans and Democrats, that are part of the problem.
